Southwest Harbor, Maine
Incorporated in 1905
The Quiet Side of the Island...
While many tourists to the island of Mount Desert are familiar with Bar Harbor on the northeast coast of Maine, Southwest Harbor is a quiet jewel located on the west side of the island.  First settled by fishermen, the town retains our maritime heritage- boasting healthy fishing fleets and a myriad of boat yards.

Unlike the busy east side, the "Quiet Side" of Acadia offers a variety of recreation and relaxation for visitors.  We invite you to browse our webpages, or better yet, visit us and enjoy a classic Maine island vacation!

It has been reported that residents have received phone calls, reportedly from the IRS, demanding money for taxes owed and threatening arrest and other consequences unless the amount of money they are asking for is paid. THIS IS A SCAM! The IRS will never make initial contact by phone. Do not succumb to these callers. Inform the caller that you will be calling the police and the FBI and then hang up!
