The Conservation Commission presently consists of five voting members, a Tree Warden, and eight associate members who assemble on Wednesdays every six weeks or as scheduled at the Town Office.

Current responsibilities include:
--- Educating the community regarding conservation ballot items, recycling, and habitat conservation.
--- Consulting with the Planning Board concerning buffering and Land Use issues.
--- Awarding two Conservation Education Scholarships to Southwest Harbor elementary school students each summer.
--- Selection of recipients of the Larue Spiker Conservation Award.
--- Managing and fundraising for the Tree Program and Beautification Fund.
--- Stewardship of the Charlotte Rhodes Park and Butterfly Garden
--- Working with Acadia National Park and Friends of Acadia on the Village Connector Trails Project.

The Commission is currently looking for new members or associates who can assist with the New Century Tree Planting Initiative, which will continue for the next two or three years.  The Commission is also interested in finding residents who would be willing to help with any of our other current projects.  No experience is required, just an interest in bettering our town and preserving its natural resources.  Please call the Town Office at 244-5404 if you can help.
